Chinese restaurants in the United States range from steam-table lunch counters to white-tablecloth Cantonese seafood halls, and most fall somewhere in between: a laminated menu, a lunch special board, and combo plates priced a few dollars below the dinner menu. Ordering by number off the menu is normal and speeds things up, especially at takeout counters. Family-style ordering, where a table shares several dishes with rice rather than each person getting an individual entree, is standard at sit-down spots and usually cheaper per person. Many neighborhood restaurants are cash-preferred or charge a small card fee, so it is worth asking or checking the door before you order. Delivery apps cover most areas, but calling the restaurant directly is often faster and avoids the markup.

Grand Rapids is in Michigan, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Grand Rapids follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Visiting from CA and desired local Asian cuisine. I can't gauge the atmosphere because we ordered to go. The food was good not great or exceptional. Prices were good (did I mention visiting from CA?), but who doesn't include soy sauce with take-away?

The best Chinese you can get in greater Grand Rapids. Normally the service is great, when the younger girl is working orders are wrong, and sheβs rude when you ask her to correct them. She actually laughed at this last instance. No problems with the rest of the staff, just poor service from the young lady / daughter. If she answers the phone we will hang up and go to another restaurant.

Easily the best Chinese restaurant in GR. When I have friends or family visiting, I usually take them hereβ¦Gaslight Kitchen always comes in clutch. What really sets this place apart is just how fresh everything is. You can tell that quality ingredients are used. I know itβs pretty basic but my god the General Tsoβs here is insane π€―

Youβre not missing much. Was really looking forward to some redemptive pad thia from the GR area and sadly this missed the mark. The flavor was missing, completely. Will say the quantity was awesome. The chicken (chicken pad thia) was a fair amount, and at least there was ONE green onionβ¦ but as a whole it was dry and clumpy. Noodles bunched together like day old spaghetti. 0 character to the flavor. Nothing about it made you say βWow, thatβs good.β You just take a bite and look for a beverage to wash it down, which was disappointing. For $16, not worth it. Staff was very nice. Atmosphere felt like it was slapped together and lacked almost as much flavor as the pad thia.

Food: you have Chinese-American restaurants in every town, but you rarely have really good ones. Gaslight is one of the really good ones. The dumplings were not only great, but seem like such a rarity these days. Orange chicken came recommended so we gave that a try along with tofi vegetable stir fry. Not disappointed, orange sauce was amazing with a very deep citrus flavor and even little bits of peel in it was almost like candy. Vegetables in the stir fry were perfectly cooked, still having some crunchiness and not the typical mush. Service was very good, but a little odd for dining in. They gave us menus, let us pick our seats, but then had us come up to the bar to order. We later found out it was due to a constant lack of staff. Everyone was very nice, food came out fairly quickly with a perfect pause between our appetizers and mains. The inside is a little sparse. Straight back wooden chairs. Once people started filling the place it got a bit loud.
